Thame Bowls Club Weekly News Report No 14
Thame’s away game against Gerrard Cross on Saturday 20th July was as described by Captain Adrian Wilcox ‘was one of the best I have enjoyed as Captain for the day. Our hosts Gerrards Cross were very hospitable, and great company to play with. I won’t go into the scores on the doors, let’s just say it was a nice afternoon, not too hot, and very much enjoyed by all our team and played with excellent spirit. Their green was very true and had a great turn, when you found the line. Thanks to all our team that supported me and made it a very good day. I will ask Terri Blackburn to contact them to come to us next season as many of their players have not visited us before and are great company’.
On Sunday 21st July, Captain Roger Blackburn said ‘Seeing Adrian’s report on Gerrards Cross, it seems our match at Wendover was very similar. A heavy defeat, but the game was played in good spirits with the players very friendly. It was a glorious summer afternoon, and the green was immaculate. As to the scores, Wendover beat us by 50 points, but we still had one winning rink with Norman Hyde, Pauline Holmes and Tony Batagglia winning by 19 – 14’.
The men had a free week in the League and results went in their favour to preserve the fifth place above Witney Town A and Woodstock. They will play Kidlington on Thursday 1st August with their final match against Witney on 8th August possibly deciding who gets relegated.
